A week after the Separation Surgery of Yemeni Siamese twin Abdulaziz and Abdullah, based on the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City – Riyadh – MNGHA, Abdulaziz condition is now stable and is able to interact with his parents and the medical team in addition to being taken off the artificial respirator and is now breathing independently.
His Excellency, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court, Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and Head of the Surgical and Multidisciplinary Team also stated that the vital signs of Abdulaziz and his organs are functioning normally.
Moreover, Dr. Abdullah explained that twin Abdullah, who was suffering from a severe brain atrophy along with serious congenital defects in his heart, kidneys and abdomen passed away as expected after the surgery, while the parents were informed of his condition before and after. However, Abdulaziz will remain in the ICU for two weeks and then he will be transferred to the Pediatrics Ward to complete the rehabilitation process before being discharged from the hospital.
It is worth mentioning that the separation surgery for the Yemeni conjoined twins (Abdullah and Abdulaziz) was performed last Friday: June 19th, 2015 on eight phases and lasted ten and a half hours with the participation of more than thirty surgeons and specialists. This conjoined twins separation marks the 37th of its kind for the Siamese Twins program in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
