Four Days After the Successful Separation of the Iraqi Conjoined Twins

Four days after the successful separation of the Iraqi conjoined twins, Ruqayah and Zainab, which was performed on Friday, 16 July 2010 at King Abdulaziz Medical City, National Guard Health Affairs Riyadh, the Head of the Medical and Surgical Team, HE Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah stated that the twins remain in a stable condition without any signs of complications of infections.

Twin Zainab has been removed from the artificial respirator and is breathing on her own and is being bottle-fed.  Twin Ruqayah’s artificial respirator will be reduced gradually and she will be taken off completely in the next day or two.  Ruqayah is being intravenously fed but due to the major anomalies in her head her survival rate is low.

Both twins will remain in the PICU and will be transferred to the Pediatric Ward in the next few days.

The Iraqi conjoined twins are the 28th separation to take place in the Kingdom of Humanity.
